BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University senior center Dillon DeBoer has been named to 2016 Rimington Trophy Watch List.
"I'm excited for Dillon DeBoer to be recognized and to be on the Rimington Watch List," said Charlie Partridge, FAU's head football coach. "He has earned it. We moved him to center last year out of necessity and I think he found a home, and really had a great spring this year. I'm excited for what will be a great senior season."
DeBoer is a three-year starter for the Owls at both guard and center. DeBoer, coming off his best spring season, graduated two weeks ago and will return to anchor an experienced line.
The Tarpon Springs, Fla native had nine 2015 games with no sacks allowed and seven with no penalties, mirroring his 2014 performance. He has a total of 19 games in the last two seasons with no sacks allowed and 15 without a penalty. Following his junior campaign, DeBoer was one of 11 named C-USA Academic All-Conference.
DeBoer is one of 58 on the current watch list, which will be updated throughout the summer and into the 2016 season. He is one of six from Conference USA.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision. Since its inception, the Rimington trophy has raised over $2.6 million for the cystic fibrosis community. The award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $120 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis.
Dave Rimington, the awards' namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
