Florida Atlantic football will be taking over Broward County with "Practice with Partridge and the Owls" on Orange Bowl Field at Carter Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22.
The spring practice, which coincides with spring break for both Broward and Palm Beach County schools, is a free event and open to the public and will feature games and activities for the whole family. Area spring break camps are encouraged to attend.
FAU Football Head Coach Charlie Partridge, a graduate of Plantation High School, is just one of six FBS head coaches nationally to have attended a Florida High School and is the only head coach at this level from a Broward County high school. The 2015 Broward County Hall of Fame Inductee made the decision to take a practice to Broward County last fall.
"I'm excited to continue to reach out to South Florida and teach them about the first class football program we are building," Partridge said.
The FAU football spring roster includes 10 players who attended a Broward County high school and 8-of-19 student-athletes in the incoming 2016 recruiting class are from the tri-county area. Since the program's inception in 2000, 74 players from Broward County have signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Owls.
The Owls will practice from 9 to 11 a.m. The first 200 fans will be treated to donuts and orange juice while the first 300 youths will receive an exclusive FAU football t-shirt. On the track, just east of the practice field, will be an interactive zone with a bounce house and games, the opportunity to "dress like an FAU Owl," enter to win drawings for prizes and other activities. Following practice, FAU coaches and players will be available for pictures and autographs.
