BOCA RATON, Fla -
The Kansas City Royals selected Florida Atlantic University junior outfielder Billy Endris in the 39th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft. He was the sixth Owl taken in this year's draft and the second picked up by the Royals.
"Billy getting drafted is a true testament to his talents," said John McCormack, FAU's head baseball coach. "He missed a lot of the season with an injury but, once healthy, he burst on the scene and played terrific. I am happy that his talents were recognized."
Endris opened the eyes of scouts with an incredible mid-season outing at UAB. The junior belted a double and two triples over his first three at-bats, scoring three runs to earn a regular spot in the starting lineup. Endris hit a career-high .329 on the season with four triples and an on-base percentage of .433. He was named to the NCAA Regional All-Regional Tournament team with a team-high seven hits and five runs, batting .438 with a double and a triple.
He played in 113 games while at FAU and tallied a .264 batting average with a .343 slugging percentage and a .360 on base percentage hitting primarily in the 9-2 spots. Both slugging and on-base percentage were over .425 in 2015.
The Owls finished the 2015 season 42-19 and ranked as high as No. 12 nationally, and made their 11th NCAA postseason appearance. Endris is the 18th player selected in the MLB draft since McCormack became the head coach in 2009. He joins Brendon Sanger, Roman Collins, Seth McGarry, Kyle Miller and Drew Jackson, who also were selected in the 2015 MLB draft.
