Florida Atlantic University's women's cross country and women's golf teams received the NCAA Public Recognition Award based on the NCAA Division I 2013-14 Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores released on May 19.
Twenty-four teams from 11 Conference USA members earned this honor and are ranked among the top 10 percentile of all teams for all sports nationally. This is the second consecutive year that women's golf has received this recognition. In addition to this award, the Owls had 204 student-athletes named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, which included 11 members from women's cross country and eight from women's golf.
"We are proud of the history of academic success with our women's cross country and women's golf programs," said Pat Chun, vice president and director of athletics. "This is a direct reflection of the quality of student-athletes that make up these teams. Across the board our 21 sports continue to excel academically. This is just another example of Florida Atlantic University's commitment to academic success."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.
