BOCA RATON, Fla. -
Florida Atlantic University diver Alexa Elkins was named Conference USA Diver of the Week after her strong performance at the FIU Invite last Saturday.
The freshman took second place out of 15 competitors in the 1 meter dive with a final score of 256.60. In the 3 meter she came in fifth with a total of 249.30. Divers from FIU, Wheaton, Indian River State, Keene State, Binghamton, and Springfield competed at the meet.
"The entire culture of the team has changed over the past few months, and it is showing in our performance," said Bryan Gillooly, dive coach. "Alexa has been a leader in shaping that performance not only in the meets but during practice, and I am really proud of her for that."
Elkins has been one of the team's top divers this season, taking third in the 1 meter and second in the 3 meter at the FAU Invitational in December. The South Florida native had her best showing against FGCU and Georgia Tech in Dec. 2014 where she claimed first place in the 1 meter with a score of 260.4 and second place in the 3 meter with a final score of 258.45.
Swimming and diving will face Central Connecticut State and Texas Christian on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 12 p.m. in Miami, Fla.
