IRVING, Texas - Conference USA has announced Florida Atlantic University sophomore Stephen Kerr and junior Brendon Sanger were selected to the 2015 Preseason All-Conference team, as voted on by league coaches.
Both Kerr and Sanger started each of FAU's 53 games in 2014 and ranked among the team leaders in every statistical category.
"This is a testament to how much of an impact these players had in the conference last season," said FAU Head Baseball Coach John McCormack. "They performed very well and the other coaches in the league recognized that and voted for them for the All-Conference team."
Kerr, who earned All-Freshman and All-Conference USA honors in his debut season, hit .324 with a team-high 38 runs. The Margate native posted 10 doubles and led the Owls with 67 hits and ten stolen bases. Kerr also recorded a team-high 126 assists with 91 putouts and just nine errors, seeing time at both second base and shortstop. He struck out only 16 times in more than 200 at-bats and drew 21 walks.
"It feels great to be recognized among the best players in the conference," Kerr said. "But what's more important is how we perform as a team this year and how far we can go."
Sanger has led the Owls in batting average in each of his two seasons on the team. Last year, the Fort Myers native hit .332 with a team-high 35 walks to lead C-USA with an on-base percentage of .451. Sanger's 29 RBI, 11 doubles, two triples and .440 slugging percentage each ranked second on the squad. He earned 20 multiple-hit games and hit home runs in back-to-back games to give the Owls a series win at FIU.
"It's a huge honor," Sanger said. "But what I'm looking forward to is to compete for a conference championship and try to lead this team to Omaha."
The Owls open the season with a three-game home series against Connecticut starting on Friday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. For ticket information, visit FAUSports.com or call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
