BOCA RATON, Fla. -
Florida Atlantic University's football team completed its fourth practice of the young season and will move into its first full week of practice on Tuesday, the first day allowable for full pads.
The Owls began Sunday's practice shortly before 9 a.m. with a cloud cover that would stay with the team throughout the day. The 24-period practice began with special teams work, as most FAU practices do. Following position drills, practice was filled with positives on both sides of the ball.
Newcomer Greg Howell caught a pass coming out of the backfield for a nice gain early in the day, but the offensive highlights came later with senior William Dukes hauling in a long pass down the sideline in the 17th period. Junior Cre'von LeBlanc had a break-up just a few plays later. Two periods later it was Lucky Whitehead, who climbed the ladder for a catch in the end zone.
Monday will be dedicated to completing summer session finals. The squad will return to the practice field on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. for their first day of practice in full pads.
FAU will open the 2014 season on Saturday, Aug. 30 at the University of Nebraska, with the game broadcast on the Big Ten Network. For season tickets, which start as low as $50, call 1-866-FAU-Owls. All FAU games will be carried on ESPN West Palm 106.3 and on www.fausports.com.
