BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University's football team completed its final preseason camp two-a-day, on Monday.
The Owls hit the practice field Monday morning in full pads and worked more than 90 minutes. The morning's first "team session" was highlighted by back-to-back connections on deep routes to senior tight end Alex Deleon and to junior wide receiver Derek Moise. Josh Ballesteros shifted the momentum back to the defense with a fumble recovery. As the team moved to red zone work sophomore defensive lineman Trey Hendrickson recorded a sack.
Deleon proved a go-to guy during 7v7 drills while corner Cre'von LeBlanc was credited with an interception. In the final team session of the morning, quarterback Jaquez Johnson hit wide receivers Jenson Stoshak and Moise while senior back Martese Jackson punched it through for a score. Jay Warren and Martese Jackson were able to move the chains and sophomore DJ Juste used his feet to extend a play for a big gain.
Sophomore Anthony Hamilton ended the 17th, of 18 periods, by breaking up a pass. FAU returned to the field for the evening session in shorts and pads and completed another 14 periods. Senior defensive back Christian Milstead had the play of the day by staying focused and picking up a deflected pass for an interception. Linebacker Nate Ozdemir grabbed a pass up the middle for interception. The offense was not done. Running backs Warren, Tony Moore and Greg Howell had big runs. Practice ended with receptions by freshmen Will Grigg and Brett Seelig.
