BOCA RATON, Fla. - Coach Partridge on the North Texas Game
I'm proud of their (defense) 10 point performance in the second half being that the only points they gave up were on short fields - first half, 21 points too many. I'm proud of the coaches for getting those things cleaned up and really executing a good number of three and outs. Offensively, one field goal in the first half - we have to do a better job of keeping drives alive. One touchdown on fourth and long in the second half is something we were able to execute - nice throw and catch to Alex (Deleon). The bottom line is we need to be better. We missed a couple of big play opportunities - one with Jenson (Stoshak) wide open in the middle of the field and one with Alex (Deleon) in the red zone.
I was asked by you Nate (Taylor from the Sun Sentinel) afterwards. The ball had been slipping on him (Jaquez Johnson) the week before, in the previous home game. We let him use the glove all week, it was a non-factor. In practice, he threw the ball well. Him wearing the glove didn't lose the game. Special teams we got Lucky (Whitehead) started a couple of times and that helped us in field position. Ronnie Scott got out there a couple of times, another freshman, and did one of the toughest jobs in football which is to hold up their gunners. The fumbled punt return obviously hurt. Our defense did a nice job holding them to a field goal in that situation. Punt team we executed a hard count and didn't get the call that we had hoped for. They did execute what we wanted on that. (Ryan) Rickel ended up dropping a punt, somehow managed to get it off and we recovered the ball and put our offense in position to score which led to our first points on the board - the field goal in the first half.
Goals Now
We are working to continue to build a program. One of the goals, from the President down, is to continue to work to build a national brand and we are continuing to work to do that. I honestly hoped going into the season that depth would not rear its ugly head but, I believe that it has. I don't anticipate being in this scenario again. That is done through recruiting depth and building strength on our current squad. Also, we are looking to recruit leaders that will continue to lead us as we move into our future. Our plan right now is to do everything that we can to prepare for two wins. Bottom line, get two wins here at the end of the season as we travel to play a tough Middle Tennessee team and then obviously come home and wrap up the season against Old Dominion. In what will be the seniors' final game here for Florida Atlantic. So, bottom line is let us execute our plan. It is a matter of time before the wisdom of our ways and our recruiting shows what we are trying to get done here.
