Aromashodu Sets New School Record and Four Qualify for Finals at SBC Championships

MIRAMAR, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University's track team has completed two days of competition at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track Championships with four student-athletes qualifying for finals and Danielle Aromashodu'sfirst place finish in the 400 meter hurdles semifinals, good for a new school record.
Aromashodu, a junior, took first with a time of 58.68, beating her previously held school record of 59.16 set in 2011. She has held the top ranking in the conference for the event for the entirety of outdoor track season. She will compete in the finals on Sunday. Lauren Walton also qualified for the 400 meter hurdle finals finishing the preliminaries in fifth-place (1:02.02)
Anna-Lisa Myers finished the 400 meters in 55.29, taking sixth place. The senior's time is the fourth best time in school history for the outdoor event. Teammate Tanisha Coppin finished the preliminaries in 16th place in 57.80.
Valerie Dixon rounded out Florida Atlantic's finals qualifiers. Dixon finished the 800 meters in 2:13.90 for sixth place and set the seventh best time for FAU.
Florida Atlantic's remaining finishers for the past two days' events are as follows:
- Jessica Jetmore, pole vault, (13th, 3.32 m)
- Megan Bary, 10 k, (18th, 43:25.03)
- Joelle Etienne, long jump, (18th, 5.46 m)
- Ashley Hinds, 100 meter, (15th, 12.42)
- Demetria Brown, 100 meter, (20th, 13.20)
- Caitlin Jackson, 400 meter hurdles, (16th, 1:06.63)
- Ashley Hinds, 200 meter, (19th, 26.10)
Running event finals are scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. Along with FAU's four time qualifiers, the team will have competitors participating in the 1500 meters, 5000 meters, and 4x400 meter relay.
