BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Alfred Morris has been named as a 2011 Doak Walker Award Candidate. This award is presented annually to the nation's best running back.
The award, in its 22nd year, is named after SMU's three-time All-American running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification. In the pool of 51 candidates, Alfred Morris is the only Sun Belt Conference player listed among the pre-season nominees.
Morris led the Sun Belt Conference in rushing in 2009 with 1,392 yards. He returned for his junior campaign to run behind five new starting offensive linemen and was 72-yards shy of becoming the program's first player to have back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons. He will have the opportunity in 2011 to become the first FAU player to have two seasons with 1,000 yards.
