Owls to Host Parents' Weekend

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's softball team will return to the field this weekend as they play host to the "Parents' Weekend" Tournament. The tournament will feature Buffalo, Hofstra, FAU, Michigan State, Middle Tennessee, Purdue, Rutgers. The tournament will be the fifth-consecutive weekend of tournament play and the fourth which FAU has hosted.
The Owls and used a different combination in nearly every game and the depth has begun to show especially at the plate. Carly Speerin, FAU's shortstop, leads the team with a .341 batting average. She has two doubles, two triples and a home run on the season but only leads in average. Lead-off batter and catcher Kerri Croney leads the Owls in hits with 16 and in triples with three. She also has two doubles. Senior pitcher Rose Gressley has 10 RBI and four doubles both team leading. There are three Owls with a homer this season: Speerin, infielder Jordan Stoval, and Gressley. Brittany Walker leads the team in the base path with three stolen bases.
The Owls have two pitchers of record. Gressley is 4-6 on the year with a staff leading 1.38 ERA. Taylor Fawbush has posted a 4-4 record and holds a 2.98 ERA. Freshman Kim Diaz has also seen time on the mound but has yet to be the pitcher of record. Gressley leads the staff with 55 strike outs while Fawbush has tallied 34. As a staff, the Owls have struck out 95 batters and have walked 40, more than a 2/1 ratio. Gressley had a season high nine twice last weekend. They are also holding opponents to a .263 batting average.
