BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost to Troy in five sets (24-26, 18-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-11) on Saturday.
Neither team managed a lead bigger than three points in the first set and the Owls (3-21, 0-12 Sun Belt) had to stave off two set points before a Darija Sataric kill and a Troy service error gave FAU a 26-24 set one victory.
FAU started quickly in the second set, getting out to a double digit lead and winning the set 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead. The third set was tied at 18 when Lizzie Clough served the Trojans (15-10, 5-6) to five straight points, with Troy eventually winning the set 25-19. The momentum carried over to the fourth set as Troy seized control early in the set and cruised to a 25-13 win to tie the match at two sets each.
In the deciding set, neither team could sustain control. The eighth and final tie of the set was at 10, before the Trojans took five of the next six points to clinch the come from behind victory. Cintia Nightingale had a career high with 27 digs and Sataric had career highs in both kills (16) and digs (11) for her first career double-double. The Owls will wrap up their home schedule on Tuesday when they host Florida Gulf Coast. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
