BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's football team took to the practice field an hour early in the anticipation of rain. The rain did hit the practice fields about an hour in, but it wasn't enough to keep the team from completing a full scheduled practice.
"The day worked out," said Howard Schnellenberger, FAU's head coach. "I was almost sure we were in for a big one (storm). But what I saw on the internet did not materialize."
FAU began with punt returns and then moved into individual drills where they stayed for nearly 25 minutes. Sessions were devoted to installing both the run and pass. Nexon Dorvilus had another big catch, his second-consecutive day. During team drills it was Damian Fortner that had the big play. Defensively, senior Tavious Polo had a pass break-up.
"The quarterbacks and wide receivers are not looking as good because the defense is standing closer than they have ever been. The defense is hounding them. That will help us in the short and long haul," added Schnellenberger. FAU's preseason practice work will continue 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the second day in half pads.
The Owls will kick-off the 2010 season Thursday, September 2 at UAB. Season tickets as well as single-game tickets are on sale and can be purchased on line or by calling 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
