Florida Atlantic University's football team worked through a long and physical Friday practice prior to the team's second scrimmage of the spring season, scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, April 17, on the Tom Oxley Athletic Fields.
Friday began with sled work on the defensive side and blocking, running and agility on the offensive side. The first 20 minutes were spent on individual skills. The Owls then moved into inside drills for match-ups. Seven-on-seven for the skilled and one-on-one among the linemen followed. The team used the last half of practice to work on the blitz, first and 10, long yardage and red zone. Practice concluded with two-minute work.
"The focus and intensity picked up in the second half of the practice," said wide receivers coach Jared Allen. "The guys are ready and looking forward to tomorrow."
Redshirt senior quarterback Jeff Van Camp was able to continue the chemistry he has developed with senior wide receiver Lester Jean. The duo hooked together on a long pass down the left side.
Redshirt senior tight end Rob Housler made a key reception during the seven-on-seven drill to move the chains. Redshirt senior running back Jeff Blanchard showcased his skills in both rushing and receiving out of the backfield. Blanchard made a tough inside run that he was able to break outside for big gain.
The Owls' practice schedule is Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3:30 p.m. with Saturday's reserved as a scrimmage day. Scrimmages are scheduled for 11 a.m., April 17 and the spring game is scheduled for 2 p.m. April 24th.
The 2010 Spring Game Saturday, April 24 on the Tom Oxley Athletic fields, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus will also feature the annual yard sale of athletic apparel.
