BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University will host the groundbreaking of its 30,000-seat football stadium on Friday, October 15 at 4 p.m. at the stadium site just north of Lee Street at FAU's Boca Raton campus.
A football tailgate party will immediately follow the groundbreaking in the plaza directly across from the site, between the Recreation and Fitness Center and the Marleen & Harold Forkas Alumni Center.
The stadium is the centerpiece of FAU's Innovation Village, located in the north central area of campus. Home of the Owls football team, the open-air stadium, a $70 million project, is slated to feature 6,000 premium seats and the latest, state-of-the-art amenities. It is anticipated to be completed and available for use in the fall 2011 semester.
Ayden Maher, president of FAU's Student Government; Howard Schnellenberger, head coach of the FAU football team; Boca Raton Mayor Susan Whelchel; Nancy Blosser, chair of FAU's Board of Trustees; FAU President Mary Jane Saunders; Chancellor of the State University System of Florida Frank T. Brogan; and Craig Angelos, FAU athletic director, are scheduled to speak.
