BOCA RATON, FL - No other team will be able to boast about a specific position like the Florida Atlantic Owls will be able to do.
At tight end, the Owls present a triple threat with redshirt seniors Jason Harmon and Jamari Grant, as well as senior Rob Housler, a combination Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger is excited about.
"Nobody in America has three tight ends like we do," he said. "All of them have played in games and all are all-conference material."
Last year, after an injury sidelines Harmon, Grant and Housler stepped up in a big way. Grant caught 45 balls, compiled 642 yards and scored four times. Housler pulled in 32 catches for 519 yards and four touchdowns.
With balance, the Owls could opt to snap the ball with up to three tight ends on the field at any given time, something that would be a problem for most defenses.
"These tall guys are a real threat when you send four guys down the field and just throw it high," Schnellenberger said. "Our tight ends are the leading catchers every year."
Another weapon at tight end is redshirt sophomore Darian Williams. A potential fourth big target running down the field, Schnellenberger has been impressed so far with the skill put forth by Williams.
"Williams can run like a deer and is one of the best catchers and blockers we have," he said. "He has got to come through for us, and he may be the best of them all."
