The Florida Atlantic University football team continued practice on Thursday outside the Tom Oxley Athletic Center in preparation for the Tuesday, September 30 game against Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro.
For the regulars, it was a shorter than normal practice day. The first team offense and defense worked out both in seven-on-seven and in team drills against the respective scout teams. Rusty Smith, looking to improve on his performances of the past two weeks, threw the ball well, finding Chad Wilkes and DiIvory Edgecomb on dump-off passes. Late in team drills he hit Cortez Gent on a long pass. On the other side of the field, the defense worked against the shotgun set that Middle Tennessee will employ. The Owl D worked extensively as well on receiving signals from the sidelines.
After practice concluded for the regulars, FAU took advantage of the extra time off between games by getting the third and scout team players some extra time to work in seven-on-seven on wide receiver isolations against the defensive backs. Mauricio Riquer, Daniel Joesph and some of the second teamers also worked out towards the end of practice.
FAU faces the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Tuesday, September 30, kickoff is at 8 p.m. The game can be seen nationally on ESPN2 and on the radio on WFTL AM 640 Fox Sports beginning at 7:45 p.m. FAU returns to Lockhart Stadium to face the Troy Trojans on Tuesday, October 7 at 8 p.m. For tickets and more information, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
