FAU vs. Michigan State Highlights
Senior Andre Clark had a career high 16 tackles for FAU. Fellow linebacker and first year starter George Allen continued to become comfortable in his new role by adding a career high 10 tackles. Frantz Joseph provided 13 tackles. Joseph currently leads the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) and is second nationally with 13.0 tackles per game. As a unit, the linebackers are now averaging 28 stops per game. The Owls held Michigan State to just 17 points.
Both the offensive and defensive lines are doing well statistically. The offensive line has not allowed a sack since the last play of the first half at the New Orleans Bowl a year ago. The defensive line is currently tied for second in the SBC in sacks.
Versus Minnesota
The all-time series between FAU and Minnesota stands at 1-1. The Owls began their run at the SBC championship a year ago with a stunning victory over the Gophers, 42-39. FAU QB Rusty Smith threw for five TDs in the game and cornerback Tavious Polo had three interceptions. Smith garnered USA Today Offensive Player of the Week honors while Polo earned Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
Comments from Coach Schnellenberger
On Minnesota...
"We are expecting to see a much more confident football team and a better team than we played last year, who had a new coach and were not as certain as they will be at this juncture. We caught them at an absolutely great time. It will be a very important game for them. They have a streak going. A three-game win streak is a major motivator and confidence builder. From a technical standpoint, it is pretty much the same philosophy and the difference will be that they are a year older and four games more confident from when they played us."
On FAU...
"We know we have a solid offense. We didn't know that we had a solid defense, but we now know that we have a solid defense, for one game. If the defense can hold that level of concentration and competitiveness, and sheer desire, then our offense will make us a much better football team."
