The Florida Atlantic University football team began preparation for its eighth season of regular season college football on Wednesday afternoon outside the Tom Oxley Athletic Center.
The Owls went for over two and a half hours in shorts and no pads. Much of the day was focused on individual unit drills, with both the offense and defense spending their time on execution of individual plays and technique.
The Owls went into seven-on-seven drills briefly. The defense, looking to improve on last year's numbers, impressed as Erick McIntosh came away with an interception as did Edward Bradwell from his linebacker position. Practice picked up with a 20-minute team scrimmage. The running game stood out, as Charles Pierre and William Rose were able to slide through holes for solid gains. The workout ended with the first wind sprints, or "gassers" of the season.
Coach Howard Schnellenberger and the defending Sun Belt and New Orleans Bowl Champion FAU Owls will host Fanfest on Saturday, August 16 beginning at noon at the FAU Track and Field complex. Bring the whole family for a day of football and fun as the Owls football team will be available for autographs before taking part in a scrimmage at 2 p.m.
Season and individual game tickets are on sale now. The Owls begin their home schedule against the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday, September 6 at 4 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
