BOCA RATON, FL - Mike Gipson pitched four strong innings and freshmen classmate Glen Troyanowski struckout the side in the ninth as Florida Atlantic defeated Boston College 4-3 Tuesday.
Gipson, a Palm Beach Central graduate, retired ten consecutive batters in just his third collegiate outing. Gipson left the game in the seventh with FAU leading 4-0 before Troyanowski came on to assure Florida Atlantic (6-3) its sixth straight win.
The pair are part of an outstanding recruiting class brought in by FAU's associate head coach and recruiting coordinator John McCormack.
Margate's Troyanowski earned his first collegiate save Tuesday night, less than a week after turning in an eight strikeout performance to defeat Mount Saint Mary's on February 27.
Boston College (5-4) surrendered three fourth inning runs, three were charged to right-handed starter Ted Ratliff who took the loss. Ratliff walked six Owl batters in just three-plus innings of work. The Eagles' staff issued ten walks in all.
Magnifying the efforts of Gipson and Troyanowski was the fact that none of FAU's four runs were products of RBI hits.
The two-game series with Boston College concludes Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. It will be the final home game for FAU before opening Sun Belt Conference play at Arkansas-Little Rock this weekend.
