BOCA RATON, FL - Despite a ninth inning rally, Florida Atlantic University's baseball team (6-4) dropped a mid-week game to Boston College (6-4) 10-6 on Wednesday.
The game was delayed by 30 minutes while the teams waited for the rain to pass and the field to dry. But, the Eagles didn't wait to put a run on the board scoring one in the first.
FAU's Chris Eberhart started his first game of the 2008 season and held BC scoreless through the next five innings. Innings that allowed FAU to take a 4-1 lead. Tom Hatcher hit a homer in the third to put the Owls up by two. FAU scored again in the bottom of the fifth following a triple by Jeremy Griffith who later scored on a Mike McKenna single.
BC drove across six in the top of the sixth and added three more in the top of the ninth.
FAU threatened in the ninth after they scored two and forced Boston to go to the pen for the closer with one out and runners on first and second.
Chris Schmitt gave up three runs in the fifth to take the loss for the Owls.
FAU will depart Thursday for Arkansas where they will face the University of Arkansas-Little Rock in the Sun Belt Conference season opener.
