STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -Backup quarterback Zac Robinson passed for 250 yards and three touchdowns, two to Adarius Bowman, and Oklahoma State beat Florida Atlantic 42-6 on Saturday night.
Oklahoma State (1-1) won its home opener for a school-record 12th straight year and improved to 20-1 against current Sun Belt Conference schools. It was the third straight year the Cowboys beat Florida Atlantic (1-1).
Robinson, who proved so effective last season that Oklahoma State coaches developed plans during the offseason to use him more, led the Cowboys to touchdowns on three straight possessions in the second and third quarters.
Robinson completed 14 of 20 passes. Two of his scoring passes - of 7 and 77 yards - went to Bowman, who had six catches for 135 yards. It was the second-best yardage total of Bowman's career, surpassed only by a 300-yard performance last season against Kansas.
Oklahoma State led 14-6 in the final minute of the first half when a 34-yard pass from Robinson to Bowman put Oklahoma State at the 4. On third-and-goal from the 7, Robinson lofted a pass into the end zone toward Bowman, who was being covered by Corey Small. Small and Bowman fell to the ground, and Small emerged with the football.
Officials initially ruled the play an interception. But after a five-minute review, the call was overturned and ruled a touchdown. Referee Cooper Castleberry said the players had simultaneous possession, in which case possession is awarded to the offense.
That score seemed to ignite the Cowboys. They took the second-half kickoff and covered 78 yards in six plays, with Robinson hitting backup tailback Kendall Hunter on a 47-yard touchdown pass.
On the first play after a subsequent Florida Atlantic punt, Robinson found Bowman in stride over the middle. Bowman juked past one potential tackler and hurdled another, safety Kris Bartles, at the 10-yard line.
That made it 35-6 with 10:38 left in the third quarter. Hunter later added a 33-yard touchdown run for Oklahoma State.
The game was delayed for 16 minutes in the third quarter after three banks of lights on the north side of Boone Pickens Stadium went out.
Florida Atlantic took the opening kickoff, but on the Owls' first snap, quarterback Rusty Smith threw an interception that safety Andre Sexton returned 9 yards for a touchdown.
A 67-yard punt return by Perrish Cox set up Oklahoma State's second touchdown, a 5-yard run by Keith Toston.
Warley Leroy accounted for all of Florida Atlantic's scoring with first-half field goals of 45 and 26 yards. The Owls drove to the Oklahoma State 8 late in the third quarter, but Donovan Woods intercepted a pass by backup quarterback Sean Clayton, ending that scoring opportunity.
Florida Atlantic finished with 203 yards of offense, compared to 488 for Oklahoma State.
