Florida Atlantic University junior Robbie Widlansky earned All-America honors from Louisville Slugger on Wednesday. He finished the season with a .433 batting average, 104 hits, 15 home runs and 69 RBI. The announcement follows Widlansky being named Sun Belt Player of the Year last week.
The Coral Springs, FL native broke the school record for hits, total bases and batting average. He also carried an 18-game hitting streak into the conference tournament during which he hit .513 with four doubles and six homers for a .795 slugging percentage. Widlansky's eight walks during that span contributed to a .563 on-base percentage.
It was the first season that the Owls competed in the Sun Belt Conference and the outfielder earned FAU's second conference player of the year honor, the first since 1999. He joins a list of 10 players in FAU history to earn All-America honors; Keith Foley (1983), Mike Ryan (1984), Scott Hay (1986), Jack Penrod (1988), Todd Moser (1999), Dan Jackson (1999), Dickie Hart (1999), Randy Beam (2003), Jeff Fiorentino (2004), Mickey Storey (2005), Robbie Widlansky (2007).
