After leading the Sun Belt Conference in batting average, hits, RBI, doubles and total bases, Florida Atlantic University's Robbie Widlansky garnered Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year honors. Sophomore William Block joins Widlansky on the First Team, while Chris Salberg, Mike McKenna and Daniel Cook all earned Second Team honors.
Widlansky (Coral Springs, FL) becomes the first FAU player since Todd Moser in 1999 to be named conference Player of the Year. He has already broken several FAU season records, including hits (101) and total bases (170) and could break the doubles and RBI record this week.
Third baseman Block (Pembroke Pines, FL) is one of three sophomores named to the first team. He ranks third in the conference in runs scored, fifth in RBI and second in home runs with 18.
Named to the second team, starting pitcher Salberg (Rockford, IL) leads the conference and is 12th in the nation in strikeouts with 116. The senior enters the tournament with a 6-3 record and a 2.99 ERA.
McKenna has had a very strong second half of the season and is currently on a 22-game hit streak. The junior outfielder is second in the conference behind Widlansky with a .418 batting average but leads the league in conference play with a .434 batting average.
All three Owl outfielders earned all-conference honors as Cook earned second team honors. The Miami, FL native is batting .354 on the year with a team-leading 16 stolen bases. The junior has also added 21 extra bases for a .516 slugging percentage.
The team heads in to the conference tournament which runs May 23-26 in Mobile, AL as the no. 6 seed. The Owls will face no. 3 Middle Tennessee on Wednesday at 10 a.m. et.
