BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Olivier Sajous was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, announced the conference office on Wednesday.
"It is great that Olivier was recognized, especially by a conference that has so many ranked players," said David Komie, FAU's head coach. "It has been a long time coming, but with the league's talent it makes it difficult to single anyone out. Olivier hasn't dropped a set since February against ranked and non-ranked opponents. He has been a guaranteed point for us."
Sajous improved his singles dual match record to 16-1, playing no. 1, and his overall record as a freshman to 25-4. The 25 victories are the most single-season victories by a men's tennis player since the program's inception. The freshman also held a no. 63 national ranking in January, which is the highest rank a FAU men's tennis player has held and he is just the second to participate in the Delray Beach ATP stop.
Of his 29 matches he has played this season, just six have gone to three sets. Of the 17 dual matches he as played just two has gone to three sets. His current win streak stands at 12.
Last week, FAU was 1-1 with a 5-2 victory over Belmont, the defending Atlantic Sun Conference Champion. In the team's second outing, FAU dropped its fourth match to a ranked opponent this season, by a 4-3 score.
In Sajous' two victories last week he defeated Belmont 6-1, 6-3 and versus Brown he downed the no. 116 player with a 6-3, 6-4 score.
