BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University swim teams enjoyed a spirited scrimmage with visiting Princeton University on Friday, marking the occasion with a special appearance by former FAU great Ellie Weberg.
The FAU women took full advantage of contributions from last year's Sun Belt Conference championship team leader, securing the 200 medley relay in the opening event with a time of 1:46.36. Weberg swam the second leg of a team composed of Lindsey Alexander (lead), Jessica Lampkin (third), and Bianca Murphy (anchor).
Weberg also fared well in her two specialty events, the 100 and 200 breaststroke, finishing first (1:04.35) and second (2:20.31) respectively.
Alexander turned in a remarkable performance, winning two events in addition to the team victory in the 200 medley relay. The junior broke the one-minute mark in the 100 back (59.28), while also taking the top spot in the 200 back (2:06.09).
Lampkin and Murphy also won individual races, with Lampkin besting the field in the 100 fly (57.22) and Murphy claiming the 50 free (24.78). Whitney Roper was the final winner on the women's side for the day, victorious in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.80.
On the men's side, Chris Cruts earned an impressive win in the 400 IM with a 4:18.56 finish. The squad closed out the meet with a satisfying one-two photo finish in the 200 free relay, posting a first-place time of 1:29.13 (Andrew Walsh, Tyler Griffith, David Whaley, Evan Boley) and a second-place time just one-hundredths of a second behind at 1:29.14 (Andrew DiGiacomo, Doug Miller, Miguel Dorante, Danny Claude).
Both teams return to action next Friday at 5 p.m., with the women traveling to the University of Miami and the men visiting Indian River Community College.
