After getting an extra day off due to a bye this week, the Florida Atlantic University football team returned to the practice field on Wednesday to begin preparation for the game against Louisiana-Lafayette on October 20.
The Owls had a shorter workout then usual, the first unit on both offense and defense practiced against each other as opposed to facing the scout teams. Rusty Smith was able to find B.J. Manley on a couple of screen passes during the team workout. The defense, however, would be equal to the task as Corey Small intercepted an out pattern thrown by Smith and Kris Bartels nearly came down with a second interception.
The Second and third teams took most of the reps during Wednesday's practice. Jeff VanCamp saw a lot of time at quarterback; Kyle Watkins got extended reps from the halfback position. Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger was very happy with what he saw.
"We had a great practice," said Schnellenberger. "The second team was able to get a lot of repetitions in and I was generally pleased."
FAU returns to action on October 20, when the Owls travel to Louisiana-Lafayette. Kickoff is at 5 p.m. and can be heard on WMEN-AM 640 in south Florida or online at fausports.com. FAU's game with the Ragin' Cajuns can also be seen in tape delay beginning at 7 p.m. on CSS for Comcast subscribers (Channel 32 in the Palm Beach market, Channel 63 in the Miami/Dade market, Channel 41 in Broward county). FAU's next home game is October 27 against Louisiana-Monroe at 4 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium. For tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
