Boca Raton, FL - Periods of heavy rain briefly postponed Friday's football practice at Florida Atlantic University. After the weather cleared, instruction resumed with the season opener against Clemson just eight days away.
During the Inside drill, several half-backs complied strong runs. Dominick Walker took a give up the middle for a 10-yard gain. As the drill ended, the team worked on delayed hand-offs, during which DiIvory Edgecomb took a delay 15 yards down the left sideline.
In the seven-on-seven drill Chad Wilkes shined making a basket catch on a low toss. Rusty Smith connected with B.J. Manley on a 20-yard strike later in the drill.
On other parts of the field, different units worked on specialized drills. The offensive line worked on the one-on-one sled drill while defensive ends and tackles dealt with a pass rush drill. Special teams focused much of its efforts on punting.
In the team 11-on-11's, the defense brought a heavy pass rush. Sean Clayton stayed poised in the pocket hitting Rob Housler over the middle of the field. Smith also held his own, rifling a pass to Jason Harmon for eight yards.
Practice is in session on Saturday on the Tom Oxley Athletic Fields at 4 p.m.
