BOCA RATON, FL (August 10, 2006) - The final practice before full contact came to a close on Thursday afternoon as the Florida Atlantic University football team continued its preseason preparation.
Day four saw a lot of individual battles take place, as the majority of the practice was made up of one-on-one drills. There were extensive work between the quarterbacks and the young FAU receiving corps as they teamed up to take on the defensive secondary in passing drills.
Elsewhere on the practice field, the linemen on both sides of the ball worked on trench moves and technique.
"These first few days are one or two guys practicing their parts. Once we get pads on we can get a good dress rehearsal," head coach Howard Schnellenberger said.
The offense and defense came together toward the end of practice and ran a series of plays at full speed with limited contact.
After practice, Coach Schnellenberger gave his opinion on the NCAA's new rule changes altering some of the rules regarding clock stoppages:
"We're going to have to conserve our timeouts better than we have in the past," he said.
However he didn't think they would drastically change the game.
"Everyone has to play by the same rules," Schnellenberger said. "There might not be as many come from behind victories."
The Owls opener is scheduled for September 2 in Clemson, SC at 1 p.m.
Practice is scheduled for Friday on the Tom Oxley Athletic Fields at 3:30 p.m., and is open to the public.
