After receiving two All-America awards in the last NCAA Swimming Championships, Florida Atlantic University's Ellie Weberg added to her accomplishments with two U.S. Olympic Trial cut times this past month at the Swimming Hall of Fame Pool in Ft. Lauderdale. Weberg will now head to the USA Swimming National Championships Aug. 1 in Irvine, CA to compete for a spot in several International meets around the world.
A native of Bloomington, MN, Weberg broke the first of two U.S. Olympic Trial times on July 6 at the FG International Age Group Invitational. She swam a time of 2:35.01 in the 200-meter breaststroke to beat the trail time of 2:35.99.
She returned to the same pool on July 16 for the Southern Zone Speedo Champion Series to swim a 1:21.01 in the 100-meter breaststroke and beat the trial time of 1:12.59. She is now eligible to compete in the Olympic Trials in 2008.
Weberg's next endeavor will come next week when she heads to the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships where she will brush elbows with as many as 20 Olympic gold medalists. The competition starts Aug. 1 but Weberg will not compete until Aug. 3 in the 100-meter breaststroke and on Aug. 5 in the 200-meter breaststroke.
With strong swims, she could become eligible to swim in any of five international meets including the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships, 2007 FINA World Championships, 2007 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, 2007 World University Games, or the 2007 Pan American Games.
At the 2006 NCAA Championships, Weberg placed fourth in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.
