Boca Raton, FL - Mark Myers, who served as Florida Atlantic University's kicker from 2001-2004, signed a professional football contract Thursday with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, of the CFL.
Not only was the contract offered and signed on his birthday, he added his name to a growing list of Florida Atlantic players playing professional football.
Myers tried out for the team on Wednesday, was invited to return for a Thursday workout, after which he was not only awarded a contract he earned the starting spot for Friday night's game. Below is the story published on the Tiger Cat's website.

Two weeks ago in Calgary, the Stampeders defeated the Tiger-Cats in heartbreaking fashion. On Friday night, the Ticats returned the favour, beating the Stampeders 20-17 on a last-second Mark Myers field goal.
The 26,944 fans in attendance also witnessed another fantastic feat as receiver Terry Vaughn caught 10 passes to become the CFL's All-Time receptions leader with 973 in his career.
In Ron Lancaster's first game in his return as Ticats head coach, the Black and Gold jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. Ticats DB Tay Cody grabbed an errant Henry Burris pass and returned in 21 yards to set up a drive that ended in Jason Maas plunging into the end zone for the game's first score. Calgary responded with 29 seconds left in the first quarter with a Sandro DeAngelis field goal to cut the home side's lead to four.
After adding another point when DeAngelis missed a field goal, the Stamps were hoping to take a lead into the locker room with the ball on the 1-yard line and time left for one play. Calgary QB Henry Burris scrambled toward the goal line but was met by Cody, who ensured the Black and Gold would lead at the half.
Vaughn went into the locker room with five receptions already on the night, needing four more to tie Darren Flutie's CFL career reception mark of 972 and five more to own the record himself.
Only three points were recorded in an uneventful third quarter thanks to some great defence by both teams. The Ticats upped their advantage to 10-4 after kicker Mark Myers, who was signed by Hamilton on Thursday, connected on a nine-yard field goal.
The Stampeders didn't wait long to strike in the fourth quarter, as a 30-yard Burris pass found receiver Ken-Yon Rambo in the end zone on the first play of the final frame. The visitors put another three points on the board four minutes later when DeAngelis connected on his second field goal of the game.
The Ticats next possession saw Vaughn make his ninth reception of the night to tie the CFL reception mark and set up a 15-yard Corey Holmes touchdown run. The 2005 Special Teams Player of the Year's first touchdown as a Tiger-Cat put his team up 17-14.
At 13:02 of the fourth quarter, Calgary evened the score when DeAngelis hit another field goal - this one from 37 yards out.
History was made on the first play of the Ticats ensuing drive as Maas hit Vaughn with a three-yard pass to make the 12-year veteran the CFL's All-Time Receptions leader.
With less than a minute to go, the Black and Gold stymied the Stampeders attack, forcing them to punt deep in their own zone. Burke Dales' punt was not a good one, giving Hamilton the ball at Calgary's 40 yard line. On the final play of the game, Myers - making his CFL debut - became a hero to the thousands of Ticats fans in attendance and watching on television around the world when he successfully connected on a 44-yard field goal to give the Tiger-Cats their first victory of the season by a 20-17 count.
Notes: Ticats G Wayne Smith left the game with a right ankle injury and did not return.
Myers was one of nine FAU inaugural players to play in every Owl contest from 2001-2004. He has followed Brian Pare, Chris Laskowski, Jared Allen and Willie Hughley who have signed contracts with the NFL. Quentin Swain played the 2006 NFL Europe season as did Allen. Several other have played indoor football. Myers is the first to play in Canada.
