Offense Comes Alive in 11-1 Win

Two four-run innings and 16 hits propelled Florida Atlantic University to an 11-1 win over Harvard on Tuesday night at FAU stadium. Tyler Stevens and Anthony Albano led the Owls with three hits apiece, while Will Mann pitched seven solid innings and only allowed one run. FAU improves to 14-14 on the year, while Harvard falls to 3-8-1.
William Block (Pembroke Pines, FL) delivered the first blow with his two-run homer in the second inning. The freshman now leads the team with four home runs on the year.
After an Alex Silversmith leadoff double in the third inning, Tyler Stevens drove home FAU's fifth run of the game. Stevens finished the night 3-for-5 at the plate and raised his batting average to .326 on the season.
The game was blown open in the seventh inning with four unearned FAU runs. A leadoff double by Stevens was followed by one of Harvard's nine strikeouts and an error to extend the inning. A fly ball to centerfield should have been the end of the threat but reliever Hampton Foushee loaded the bases by giving up singles to Albano and Jordan Hafer. Tim Mascia then came through with a three-run triple down the right field line.
Mann (1-0) and Mike Crotta held the Crimson offense to eight hits and the duo combined for 10 strikeouts.
Harvard's one run came on Matt Kramer's first home run of the season in the fifth inning.
Javier Castellanos suffered the loss for Harvard and drops to 0-3. The senior from Hialeah, FL gave up four earned runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
FAU will host Campbell in a three-game conference series starting Friday at 7 p.m. A Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m. will close out the series.
