Owls Drop Series at UNF

Florida Atlantic University could not overcome a six-run deficit in the first inning against the University of North Florida on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Atlantic Sun three-game series. FAU fell 13-3 to the Ospreys and drop to 13-14, 3-6 A-Sun, while UNF improves to 15-12, 8-4 A-Sun.
UNF put the first six batters on base with two walks and four singles. With the bases loaded Jonathon Hodach singled home two runs. Jon Dandridge picked up two RBI of his own in the inning as the Ospreys batted around.
The Owls countered with one run in the third inning after a two-out double by Tim Mascia was followed by a Tyler Stevens RBI single. Stevens picked up the second RBI for the Owls in the sixth.
The greatest scoring opportunity for Florida Atlantic came in the seventh inning as Justin Martin and Jordan Hafer started the inning with singles. With the bases loaded and no one out, UNF started Brad Johnson recorded the first out on an infield fly ball. Alex Silversmith drove home Justin Martin with a base hit up the middle off of reliever Travis Martin. UNF then closed out the scoring threat on two fly balls as FAU left the bases loaded. The Owls left 12 stranded on the afternoon.
In the sixth inning, North Florida padded its lead with three additional runs as the team batted around. UNF finished the game with 17 hits and left 10 men on base after facing eight FAU pitchers.
The leadoff hitters for both teams produced hits, Jordan Hafer led FAU with three hits, while Matt Oxendine finished the afternoon 5-for-5 for the Ospreys.
FAU will play Harvard in a midweek game on Tuesday before facing conference foe Campbell in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday in Boca Raton.
