Owls Win A-Sun Series Over Kennesaw State

Florida Atlantic University split a doubleheader with Kennesaw State University and secured a series win on Saturday afternoon at FAU Stadium. FAU lost game one 7-6 before rebounding for a 12-6 offensive display.
KSU starter Kyle Muschara got roughed up for five runs on seven hits in the first inning of game one. He was replaced by Justin Freeman (2-0) who recorded the final out of the first and only allowed one run on four hits in the next 4 1/3 innings. The only run he gave up was a home run to Ovy Ramirez.
Freeman combined with relievers Jamie Spear, Casey Rogers and Michael Bohana to keep FAU off of the scoreboard in the final seven innings while KSU battled back to win game one of the doubleheader 7-6. Bohana picked up his second save of the year by working the ninth inning.
After posting one run in each of the first three innings, Kennesaw State's Matt Dallas delivered a two-run home run over the left field fence to bring KSU to within one run. The team would take the lead in the sixth inning as FAU committed two errors.
Chris Salberg (2-4) suffered the loss for FAU after he threw 5 2/3 innings and allowed seven runs, three earned, on seven hits and struck out six. William Block led FAU offensively going 3-for-3 at the plate.
Second baseman Ryan Perry finished with three hits and three runs scored for KSU.
FAU (12-12, 2-4 A-Sun) secured the doubleheader split by taking a 12-6 win as the team produced its highest hit total of the season with 17. Four Florida Atlantic players accumulated three hits apiece and Ramirez finished with four RBI.
KSU (9-12, 3-3 A-Sun) tied the contest at two in the top of the sixth inning before a 10-run bottom of the sixth gave Florida Atlantic an insurmountable 12-2 lead. In the inning FAU picked up nine hits, including two doubles and Ramirez's second home run of the afternoon.
Brandon Cooney (1-2) earned his first collegiate win after he pitched six innings and allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five. His counterpart Dan Dale (3-2) lasted five innings and gave up six runs on 10 hits.
With no midweek games, Florida Atlantic will next play at the University of North Florida on Mar. 24-26. The Ospreys are in their first season at the Division I level and are members of the Atlantic Sun Conference
