Florida Atlantic University picked up its first Atlantic Sun Conference win of the season with a 7-2 win over Kennesaw State University on Friday night at FAU Stadium. Mickey Storey threw a complete game to give FAU a record of 11-11, 1-3 A-Sun, while KSU falls to 8-11, 2-2 A-Sun.
FAU took an early 4-0 advantage after collecting seven hits in the first three innings off of KSU starter Bubba Blalock. Blalock (2-4) finished with 5 2/3 innings of work and allowed six runs, four earned, on nine hits and four strikeouts.
Blalock started the first two innings by hitting batters that eventually came around to score. Alex Silversmith started the third inning with a single and scored on an RBI double by Anthony Albano. Albano finished the night going 4-for-4 with two doubles after moving down to the nine spot in the lineup.
Kennesaw State picked up one run in the fourth inning with doubles from Jay Morrow and Jacob Robbins. Storey did not allow a hit in the next four innings. The sophomore gave up the final run with two outs in the ninth as Martin Baker drove home in second run for KSU.
During Kennesaw State's scoring drought, FAU posted two runs in the sixth on a two-run single from Ovy Ramirez and an unearned run in the seventh.
"We needed a well pitched game," said FAU head coach Kevin Cooney. "Mickey did that and we scored some runs. Ramirez's hit blew the game open."
Storey gave up two runs on eight hits and struck out seven in his first complete game of the year.
The two teams will face off in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. to close out the three-game series at FAU Stadium.
