BOCA RATON,FL- With less than a week until Florida Atlantic University opens up its 2005 season at Kansas, the Owls held a very intense practice on Sunday afternoon at the Tom Oxley Athletic Field.
For the first half of practice the Owls focused on individual unit drills. Quarterback Sean Clayton threw the deep ball with good accuracy during one-on-one drills.
Running backs DiIvory Edgecomb, Aaron Sanchez and Dominick Walker all showed good downhill running ability during scrimmage play.
Erik Benson and Kris Bartels each had an interception during seven-on-seven drills.
During simulated game situations quarterback Danny Embick connected with Frantz Simeon on a 40-yard touchdown pass. Wide out Jason Harmon made the catch of the day with a one-handed snag along the sideline.
The Owls' defense came up with a goal line stand to end practice when Troy Pindell broke up a pass from Embick to Darrion Porter-Isom.
Sunday's practice was just the first step in FAU's preparation for Kansas. "We're just starting to get honed in," said offensive lineman Nick Paris. Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger said he was encouraged with the effort of his team today.
Tight end Dantson Dareus returned to practice on Saturday.
The Owls will play Kansas on September 3 at 7pm eastern standard time.
