David Komie Named Men's Tennis Head Coach

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University Athletic Director Craig Angelos has announced the hiring of David Komie as the men's tennis head coach. Komie is an FAU graduate and takes over a team he used to be a member of while attending FAU.
"We are very excited about bringing back to FAU one of our own former student-athletes and star tennis players to head up our men's tennis program," said Angelos. "This is the beginning of a new era in men's tennis at FAU. We are extremely confident David will utilize the same skills he developed while coaching at Texas and make our program a national contender in the near future."
He is a 1985 graduate of FAU where he played two seasons for the Owls. In 1985, his senior season, Komie went 17-1 at no. 2 doubles on FAU's nationally-ranked Division II team. Komie was also a standout at Samford, where he played at no. 1 singles and doubles as a freshman and sophomore.
Komie most recently served as a volunteer assistant for Texas for the past four years, where he was instrumental in leading the team to four NCAA Tournaments and two NCAA regional championships. During his time with the Longhorns, he coached four All-Americans.
"I am very excited to be coming home to coach Division I men's tennis at my alma mater," said Komie. "The speed at which FAU Athletics has been growing is nothing short of amazing. I hope to do my part to continue FAU's meteoric ascent to national prominence."
For the past 16 years, Komie has practiced law and, since 1996, has run his own law firm in Austin, TX.
