Owls Fall to Florida

Kevin Bartell and David Parker took first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke for Florida Atlantic University in a dual swim meet with the University of Florida on Friday afternoon. The men's team suffered a 180-109 loss to the fifth-ranked Gators and the women's team fell 164.5-124.5 to the no. 4 Gators' women's team.
Bartell, a sophomore from Bakersfield, CA edged out Parker with a time of 57.57 in the 100 breast. Parker (Boca Raton, FL) touched the wall in 57.62 to add four points for FAU.
In the women's 100 breast, junior Ellie Weberg finished second behind UF's Candace Weiman who earned two first-place finishes on the day. Weberg's time of 1:05.35 gave FAU four points.
Weiberg returned to win the 200 breast by more than two seconds with a time of 2:20.62.
In the 200 fly, Shawna Griffith placed second in 2:06.83 and the Owls took three of the top-four spots in the 50 free. Jessica Lampkin placed second in the event with a time of 24.55, while Stephanie DeRito and Bianca Murphy tied for third with times of 24.73.
Lampkin picked up another second-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 53.57 behind UF's Weiman.
Diver Samantha Schlachterman (Cherry Hill, NJ) took fourth in the three-meter event with a score of 223.28 and followed that with a third place finish in the one-meter event with a 227.32.
FAU will swim Indian River Community College on Saturday before heading to the Georgia Tech Invitational next weekend.
