Boca Raton, FL - Florida Atlantic University's football opened their first three-a-day practice schedule at 8 am Saturday in helmets, pads and shorts. Offensive lineman Nello Faulk drew praise from coaches and teammates during OL/DL drills after stopping Johnnie Sloan in a one-on-one drill. Freshman, Brandon Jackson also received applaud after pushing senior defensive lineman William Gray to the ground. During WR/CB drills, freshman Corey Small leaped to break up a pass from Dane Hansen intended for Brittney Tellis. Afternoon practice started with a light drizzle to cool the athletes off before the heat was turned up. Danny Embick found success in seven-on-seven drills. He first launched a downfield pass that Larry Taylor caught in stride for a touchdown before finding Roosevelt Bynes wide open on the right sideline for another score. The offense also worked on its screen plays. The final practice of the day saw the Owls work on team drills, blitz drills and first and ten on the 35. During the blitz drills the newcomers and third team was taken aside gain extra reps. The squads first three-a-day ended with an interception by defensive back Derek Zak. "We have made good progress in the first week, in as much as this was to be orientation week," said head coach Howard Schnellenberger. "We have a lot of good young players that will augment the veterans."
