MACON, GA - Florida Atlantic University's Natalia Navarro has been named Atlantic Sun Conference Women's golfer of the Year and men's golfer. Torstein Navestad was named A-Sun male Freshman of the Year.
Navarro, from Medellin, Columbia, had a remarkable season, never finishing outside of the top six and only finishing outside of the top four once. Navarro took low medallist honors at the Mission Inn Fall Classic and at the FIU/Pat Bradley Invitational. The senior also finished runner-up at the Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate and Ryder Florida Women's Collegiate Championship. Navarro finished the season with a 75.15 scoring average and was also named A-Sun First Team All-Conference.
She is currently competing at the NCAA Division I East Regional Championship at Howey-in-the-Hills.
Naevestad, from Oslo, Norway, had a stellar freshman season for the Owls, winning the Stetson Intercollegiate and finishing runner-up at both the Charleston Southern Fall Invitational and El Diablo Intercollegiate. Naevestad finished in a tie for 13th at the A-Sun Championship, shooting even par. The freshman finished the season with a 73.57 scoring average and was also named to the A-Sun All-Conference Second Team.
The 2004 A-Sun Golfer, and Freshman of-the-Year are voted on by the league's head coaches. The first, second, and all-freshman team honorees are based on the GolfStat rankings compiled at the conclusion of the A-Sun Championship.
