During the early signing period, Florida Atlantic University's volleyball team added Janelle Sarauw to the 2003 roster. Sarauw, from St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, is a standout volleyball and basketball player in the Virgin Islands. She was a member of the Charlotte Amalie High School team that finished 49-1 overall during the past two seasons.
Growing up around volleyball, Sarauw has played the game since the age of three. Her father is the president of the St. Thomas Amateur Volleyball Association, while her mother is a volleyball coach.
Despite being 5'10", Sarauw is able to touch the rim of a standard basketball goal. Her jumping ability enabled her to gain a spot on the Virgin Islands' Junior National Basketball Team that captured a gold medal at the Caricom Championships last summer.
"Sarauw will bring outstanding athletic ability and a winning attitude to the team as a true freshman," said head volleyball Jody Brown. "Those talents will help us return to the NCAA Tournament right away."
