Florida Atlantic University's Inaugural football team has experienced "a year of firsts". Friday night, the first list of gridiron lettermen was read and the team's individual awards were bestowed. Jared Allen topped the letter winners as the first on an alphabetical list and he topped the team's award list as Most Valuable Player.
Allen gained the starting nod in game two and never looked back. The red-shirt freshman played in every game, with eight starts. He completed 77 of 173 passes, with seven interceptions for a passing efficiency of 105.40. His longest pass of the season was for 88 yards, more than half of his 118.5 average per game. The Oklahoma native also threw for six touchdowns and ran for one.
Doug Parker earned the Offensive MVP award as the team's leading rusher. Parker rushed for eight touchdowns. His most productive game was against Jacksonville where he had 22 attempts for 110 yards and four touchdowns.
Mauratae Johnson earned the teams Defensive MVP honors. Johnson led the team with a total of 63 total tackles, including a team high 48 solo.
The Special Teams Award was bestowed to Nick Seta, a senior transfer who brought experience to the squad and served as the special team's captain.
Chris Laskowki was honored with the Student-Athlete Award for his stewardship. Dave Richards used his initial season to move from defense to offense and earned the team's Most Improved Award. Coisge McCullough was award the Non-Scholarship MVP award and Ed Mathews, one of three seniors and the only offensive lineman to start every game, took home the Gridiron Club Award (Senior MVP).
