BOCA RATON, FL -
The Florida Atlantic University football team completed its second day of full-squad two-a-day practices Saturday at the Oxley Practice Fields in Boca Raton. Nearly 90 players are taking part in drills as the inaugural team prepares for its first game, September 1, against Slippery Rock at Pro Player Stadium.
"Our freshman have had four days of practice and our seniors have had two," said FAU head coach Howard Schnellenberger following Saturday's late practice. "Even though I'd like it to be error-free as we put in new offense and defense, we can't expect to be as sharp as we would if we were just reviewing each day."
"We'll continue to add to both systems for the first 19 practices before we begin the short list review for Slippery Rock," added Schnellenberger. "I'm very pleased with the quality of work that I've seen and the enthusiasm that the team is demonstrating."
The team will continue two-a-days Sunday with practice times scheduled for 1:00pm and 6:30pm at the Oxley Practice Fields. Sunday is also autograph and picture day for the fans.
"To utilize all of the time we have for preparation, we plan to work out twice on Sunday which will feature an autograph and picture session with the players starting at approximately 2:30pm," said Schnellenberger. "Everyone is invited to join us."
The team will practice Sunday and Monday before going to full pads on Tuesday. Practice times on Monday and Tuesday will be from 10:00am-Noon and 4:00pm-6:00pm. All practices are open to the public.
