At Stetson (Second stint)
Served as the Hatters’ head coach from 2021-2024
After less than one full year away from Stetson University and the Hatters' football program, made his return as the 10th head coach in Hatters' football history in June of 2021
Young's defensive units were known for their attacking style of play and his aggressive play calling, especially in pass defense where the Hatters ranked first or second in the PFL six times during his seven seasons as defensive coordinator from 2013-19. Stetson was also regularly among the top teams in the PFL in sacks and turnovers forced
At Georgia Southern
Prior to his head coaching stint with the Hatters, he served from 2020-2021 as a defensive analyst at Georgia Southern
Helped the Eagles to an 8-5 record that included victories over South Alabama, Troy, Florida Atlantic and, in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, a 38-3 en route of Louisiana Tech
Derrick Canteen led the nation in interceptions under Young’s direction
At Stetson
First became acquainted with Stetson from 2012-19 while he served as the program’s assistant head coach/defensive coordinator/defensive back coach, notably was the first defensive coordinator in the program’s history
Had a direct hand in recruiting, and the development of the Hatters' four-time All-American Donald Payne, who went on to a successful career in the NFL and now plays for the Arlington Renegades. Payne was also a three-time Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Year
In addition to his defensive responsibilities at Stetson as coordinator and defensive backs coach, also worked with the Hatters' special teams and served as the staff liaison to pro scouts and to postseason all-star games.
At Cornell
Served as defensive backs coach and as an assistant defensive coordinator for two seasons from 2010-11
Worked with the secondary that finished second in the league in pass defense
Helped the Big Red to a No. 2 spot in the Ivy League in pass defense and developing a pair of second team All-Conference performers over two seasons.
Recruited and developed three All-Ivy League honorees
At Mississippi College
Served as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach from 2007-10
Led a defense that was instrumental in winning the American Southwest Conference Championship, defeating a team that had not lost a conference contest in two seasons
At Louisiana College
Worked as the defensive secondary coach, pass game coordinator and special team coach in 2004
Developed two All-American defensive backs and two all-conference kick returners

Volunteer training camp assistant with the Buffalo Bills in 2005

Was the defensive coordinator/secondary coach and the director of housing and scouting for the Grand Rapids Rampage (AFL) from 2004-05.
In 2004, served as an assistant head coach/defensive coordinator/assistant director of player personnel for the Greenville River Hawks (PIFL)
In 2002, worked with professional players and did so with the Georgia Force (AFL) as an assistant defensive coordinator, defensive backs coach, and assistant director of football ops/scout coordinator/conditioning coach
As High School Coach
From 1999-2001, was a teaching coach for both football and basketball at Savannah High School, where he was an assistant for a basketball team that posted a 32-2 record and a runner up finish in the state championship.
In 1998, was at Beach High School as the defensive coordinator/special teams coach
Began coaching career at Statesboro High School where he was an assistant coach during the spring, primarily working with the secondary and special teams
Playing Career
A native of Savannah, Ga., stayed close to home to play for Georgia Southern where he played defensive back and earned a B.S. in Parks and Recreation Administration in 1997.
Prior to his coaching career, Young spent the 2000 and 2001 seasons playing in arena football, first for the Bismarck (N.D.) Blaze and then for the Duluth (Minn.) Lumberjacks.
