At FAU
Austin Shepherd joined the Owls in the summer of 2020 as an offensive graduate assistant. Shepherd will work with assistant coach Jeff Norrid and the offensive line. The move to FAU reunites Shepherd with Norrid, who served as an offensive analyst for Alabama from 2009-14.
In the NFL
Shepard began his NFL playing career as a seventh round (228th pick) by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015. The Buford, Georgia native saw action in 15 games that season and then accumulated time with the San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers, both on the practice squad, and then returned for his second stint with the Vikings. His career concluded in September 2017.
At Alabama
Concluded his collegiate playing career as an offensive lineman for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2014. During his days in Tuscaloosa, he was a member of two SEC Championship teams and two National Championship teams. Shepherd moved into the starting right tackle spot in 2013 and did not allow a regular-season sack and ended his junior campaign allowing just one. His sophomore season he was play a reserve role for a line that helped block for a rushing attack that totaled 200-plus yards in nine games, including three games over 300 yards. Shepherd saw action in seven games as a redshirt freshman. He was a part of two Sugar Bowls (2013 and 2014), and the 2011 and 2012 BCS National Championship Game and in 2010, his redshirt season, Alabama captured the Capital One Bowl.
High School
Shepherd played for North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia where he was teammates with Ja’Wuan James. Gwinnett High School advanced to the GHSA Class 5A state championship with a 13-2 record his sophomore season. His junior season the team advanced to the quarterfinals and his final prep campaign was capped with a 13-1 mark, a Region 7-5A championship and a trip to the state quarterfinals.
