Football Coaches Honored by CBS Sports

BOCA RATON, Fla. – After a statement 16-10 win over FIU in Shula Bowl XXIV, Hagerty Family Head Football Coach Zach Kittley and Defensive Coordinator Brett Dewhurst were named by CBS Sports as American Conference Coaches of the Week.
Kittley was selected as the American's top head coach for the second consecutive week while Dewhurst was named the best coordinator.
In the lowest scoring Shula Bowl and tightest margin of victory by the Owls,' Dewhurst's defensive unit surrendered just 10 points, least amount allowed by Florida Atlantic against an FBS opponent since Nov. 12, 2022.
The game was bookended by the Owls' defense logging three interceptions in the first quarter and three defensive stands in the fourth, with the final coming in the red zone as time expired. Florida Atlantic's three picks matched the total for the entire 2025 season.
Kittley and the Owls will look to build a three-game winning streak with a road matchup against ULM. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
