Veltkamp on Maxwell Award Watch List for Second Consecutive Year

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Entering his fifth collegiate season, Florida Atlantic football's starting QB Caden Veltkamp has been named to the 2026 Maxwell Award's preseason watch list, announced on Monday. The annual honor is awarded by the Maxwell Football Club to the college football player of the year.
Veltkamp enters year two in Paradise after leading one of the top passing offenses in the nation in 2025. Individually, he was No. 1 nationwide in completions per game (28.75), No. 3 in total offensive yards per game (307.2), No. 4 in completion percentage (67%), and No. 7 in passing yards (3,641). As a team, the Owls finished No. 1 in passing offense (340.2).
Single-game program records were set and matched throughout '25 in passing touchdowns (five), completions (42), and yards (494).
Marking yet another preseason honor, the 6-foot-5, 236-pound gunslinger has also earned a spot on the 2027 Shriners Children's East-West Bowl 1000 List, the Phil Steele's Magazine All-Conference second team, and the Athlon Sports All-Conference third team.
Veltkamp is one of just four players from the American Conference that is represented on the watch list.
The 2026 campaign for Florida Atlantic football officially begins on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Florida. Kickoff is at 7:45 p.m. on SEC Network.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 10, 2026, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled November 24, 2026. The winner of the 90th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 10, 2026. The formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on Saturday March 13, 2027, at the Coca Cola Roxy Theater in Atlanta, Georgia.
