BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball (28-26, 12-14) managed just six hits on Friday in a 6-1 defeat at the hands of East Carolina (32-21-1, 16-10). Prior to the game, this year's 13 seniors were recognized for their contributions to the program.
THE BEGINNING
FAU's
Kide Adetuyi and ECU's Ethan Norby went toe-to-toe on the mound for the first four innings. The Owls pushed across a run in the third inning after a one-out single by
TJ Gramesty and an infield single by
Kyle Boylston. The Pirates responded in the fourth inning with a pair of two-out hits to tie the game.
THE TURNING POINT
Adetuyi departed after four innings, and the Pirates tagged the Owls' bullpen for a big fifth inning. Four singles and two walks led to four runs and a 5-1 ECU lead.
Tyler Murphy pitched the final four innings for the Owls and held the Pirates to just one run, but the damage had long been done.
THE FINISH
The Owls put runners on in each of the last four innings but never advanced one past second base. Florida Atlantic finished the night with 12 strikeouts, including 10 recorded by Norby.
THE BATS
- Boylston singled and doubled for two of the Owls' six hits.
THE ARMS
- Adetuyi allowed one run on three hits in four innings.
- He was removed on a pitch count with an eye towards next week's American Conference Tournament.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Owls will look to salvage the series in the regular season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
