No. 15 Florida Atlantic Finishes Capri Classic Perfect

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 15 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team closed out the Capri Classic on Saturday with a sweep of Stephen F. Austin, 5-0, and a 3-2 win over FGCU on Saturday at the FAU Beach Volleyball Complex.
Florida Atlantic improves to 17-11, while SFA falls to 5-19 and FGCU drops to 17-12 on the season.
Olivia Strandberg and Ava Koehl got the Sandy Owls on the board first, earning a dominant straight-set win on court two, 21-12, 21-8. Cameron Knifton and Shayna Wolf extended the Owls lead to 2-0 with a 21-15, 21-15, two-set win at the 4s. Klaire VanDeusen and Mia Scanlon clinched the dual for FAU, capturing another straight-set win on court three, 21-11, 21-12. Reese Edwards and Kendall Mignerey made it 4-0 FAU, earning a 21-12, 21-18 win at the 5s. Denisse Morgenstern and Shantel Starling then closed things out, sealing the sweep for Florida Atlantic with a 21-13, 24-22 straight-set victory on court one.
In the Sandy Owls weekend finale, FGCU took the early lead, taking court two in straight sets. However, the Sandy Owls responded to tie up the dual at one apiece after Knifton and Wolf won 21-6, 21-17 at the 4s. Edwards and Mignerey pushed the Owls in front 2-1 with a 21-17, 21-14 two-set win on court five. VanDeusen and Scanlon clinched the match once again for the Sandy Owls, taking a 21-18, 21-14 victory on court three. FAU tried to rally at the 1s, taking set two 21-17 to force a third deciding set, but the Eagles eventually took the third to claim court one and close out the dual, 3-2.
